I set up 'Mastering Art' in 2006 ; originally as ' Starting Art ' for adults. Loosely based on the ' foundation course ' model where students learn about all aspects of art with still-life and life-drawing, along with art history in the form of slide show discussion sessions being the three mainstays. Students are guided through a variety of projects, focusing on skill base and conceptual understanding. Mainly drawing and painting , students also have the opportunity to explore techniques such as mono, screen and lino printing, collage and claywork ; time for personal projects along side given exercises and the occassional exhibition give an indepth understanding of many aspects of art.
Classes are limited to max of x10 on each day, and sometimes operates a waitlist.
A willingness to experiment and a committment to the 'training of the eye' is particularly encouraged.
